Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)
MCUTS@LBC students may earn up to 30 semester hours of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) by submitting an application and required documentation that has been evaluated by faculty in the respective discipline(s). In the admission process, students are provided with an opportunity to obtain an estimate of the number of CPL credits they can receive once they enter the program.
An administrative fee of $300 is required for each application.
The CPL Application must be completed during the first session of any Fall, Spring, or Summer term of enrollment. Required documentation must be submitted electronically during the second session of the same term. Notification will be provided during the third session about the number of CPL hours awarded.
Credit for Prior Learning must:
- Be for documented learning, not just experience or exposure. The 3 semester hours of CPL credit can be from a number of different sources including workshops, seminars, self-study, non-credit classes, training programs and work experiences. It is the prior learning from these sources that is documented and evaluated by a faculty member in the relevant field for the amount of credit to be awarded. Documentation can be in the form of copies of certificates, letters of reference, essays, etc.
- Be College level learning.
- Not have resulted in college credit previously.
NOTE: Application to the CPL process does not guarantee credits will be awarded. Credits granted by MCUTS@LBC may not transfer to other academic institutions.
